Across The Sanzu River (feat. Starlix)

from The Yama King by Yumi Sakata

/

about

Sort of an interlude track/gateway to the 11min closer. But is a song in its own right. Has a nice acoustic interlude into some emotional choruses. At this point, the lyrics turn to the idea that the sinner has died is being ferried to be judged by the one and only Eiki. A conversation strikes between them and Komachi in which she points out that judgment is objective and does not care for the circumstances that led to the sinful action taking place. I didn't write these lyrics out as a connecting story, but more as a eye-opener to the themes I mentioned for this album.
Part 2 of the epic

Tuning: F# B E A D G B E

lyrics

at the farthest reaches where the living cannot be
stands a woman with a scythe, a blue vest, a white dress underneath
she introduces herself, she goes by the name Komachi
though confused and dazed, i know she is a Shinigami

approaching a dock, a boat appears before me
"you're dead sir" she spoke, "to pass on there is a fee"
with no pockets nor form I reply "I no have money"
"not the currency of old" she responds, "but the sin of your greed"

dead or living, boundary i lie
is this my sunset, or my sunrise
fate is sealed by, reaper sights
to be ferried, away tonight

memories flashback to the past as i pay the fee
who knew that moving on to rest was never free
the river spans wide and long to reflect sins of old
the journey is long and far just like my greed i'm told

I don't know where I'd be
Heaven, Hell, or Purgatory
Then the God of Death turned towards me and said
Hell is more fitting
Hell is more fitting

You followed your shadow and lived a life only for yourself
You stole and took and drained of others of wealth
I did not want to, I had too, life was cruel to me
and i took from those who did not need the money
Death does not care for your circumstances, its what you make of your life
What you did, regardless of need or want is sin
Then I rather, be a-live as sinner then dying away with no will to live
Fuck the abuse, I'll misuse, and take all things i have for granted within

As the river finally ends, and i step off the boat
Only the girl remains, standing afloat
Across the Sanzu River, I ask, "what is my fate?"
"Judgement" she spoke, "of the highest order, the Yama King"
